Split is quickly becoming one of the hottest travel destinations in Europe. And it’s easy to see why — amazing architecture, beautiful blue waters, nice weather, and easy access to Croatia’s islands. Split has also traditionally been a fairly affordable city, so it’s home to around 40 hostels. So, to help you narrow your hostel search, we’ve analyzed all the options to bring you the best hostels in Split, Croatia.
The Average Hostel Prices in Split, Croatia
Hostels in Split tend to be affordable, plentiful, and high quality.
Well-rated hostels in Split cost €18-€33/night but the average is around €25/night — however, I’ve seen some as low as €12-€15/night. Some hostels might raise their prices on Friday and Saturday nights so keep that in mind.

Quick Facts About Split Hostels
Here are a few things to think about when looking for your hostel:
Book Early For the Best Prices & Selection
Summer is the busy season in Split so you might want to book a bit early if you want to snag the cheapest beds at the best hostels.
Hostel Vibes
Most hostels in Split tend to be small, backpacker-style properties — which means they’re not fancy but they’re friendly. That said, some hostels might be quiet and others might be “party” hostels (most will be somewhere in between). So pay attention to this before booking so you find a hostel that matches your travel style.
Neighborhoods and Location
Most hostels are located in the old town so you’re right in the heart of everything. However, there are a few hostels located outside the old town so pay attention to the location before booking.
Check-In Times and Cleaning Times
Many hostels have late check-in times (around 2 pm-4 pm) but nearly all will let you store your bags if you arrive before check-in. Some will also close in the early afternoon so the cleaning crews can do their thing.

Split Guesthouse & Hostel
Split Guesthouse & Hostel has been the most popular hostel in Split (and Croatia) for multiple years in a row so you can’t go wrong if you can snag a bed here.
First of all, the owner of Split Guesthouse & Hostel is extremely nice and welcoming so you feel at home right away. The hostel’s location is excellent, the beds are comfortable, and the staff does a great job of keeping the hostel clean. They also have nice bathrooms — which isn’t exactly common in most hostels.
This is a very social hostel so expect to make friends (i.e. this is an excellent place to stay if you’re traveling solo). They also have a fully equipped kitchen and the staff often makes group dinners. That said, this isn’t a party hostel so you’ll still be able to get a nice sleep.

Old Town Hostel Split
Old Town Hostel Split might not be the most modern or updated hostel in Split but it is the only hostel located within the walls of Diocletian’s Palace — which is a Roman imperial structure from the 4th century AD protected by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. So that’s pretty cool! It also means you’re right in the heart of Split so you’re surrounded by bars, restaurants, and sights.
Old Town Hostel Split is another super friendly and welcoming hostel so you’ll feel at home right away. The staff is always willing to help with suggestions on what to see and do in Split. They also help organize dinners, nights out, and other activities. Overall, this is a very chill and laid-back hostel.

Beach Hostel is a much-loved hostel in Split that’s also just a few steps from the most popular beach in town. Furthermore, you’re less than a 10-minute walk from the center of town. The hostel’s neighborhood is one of the city’s top nightlife destinations so you’re surrounded by bars, restaurants, and clubs.
Beach Hostel has a very laidback, artsy backpacker vibe. It’s a social hostel and good for meeting other travelers but it’s still quiet at night. The host is also very friendly so she’ll make you feel welcome as soon as you arrive.

Backpackers Fairytale Split Hostel
Backpackers Fairytale is a homey hostel run by Antea and her dog that’s just a few minutes from the 1700-year-old Diocletian Palace. The neighborhood is quiet and residential but you’re still super close to Split’s bars and restaurants.
Like many hostels in Split, Backpackers Fairytale is laidback and a nice place to meet other travelers. Furthermore, the shower and toilet facilities are great and the rooms have everything you need. The facilities aren’t the most up-to-date but it’s still a comfortable hostel. It’s also one of the cheapest hostels in Spilt.

En Route Hostel Split
En Route Hostel is one of the only modern hostels in Split, so it’s comfortable and updated but doesn’t have that cozy “backpacker” feel. That said, this is still a great hostel with tons of space, nice showers, and lots of common areas to chat with fellow travelers. They don’t have a free breakfast but there is a self-catering kitchen.
The En Route Hostel isn’t located in the old town so the neighborhood isn’t super cute and you’ll have to walk about 15-20 minutes to get to the old town.

Tchaikovsky Hostel (T-Hostel) Split

CroParadise Green Hostel Split
CroParadise Green Hostel has been one of the most popular hostels in Split for multiple years — probably because they’re one of the cheaper options. They have comfortable beds, a decent kitchen area, and super friendly staff. The location can’t be beaten as you’re just five minutes from all the action of the Old Town.
The showers are nice but there aren’t many so you might have to wait to shower. It’s not the most lively hostel but they also organize pub crawls in the summer.
One thing to note is that CroParadise Green Hostel is a mixture of a hostel and private apartments (which are located in a different building across the street) — so if you’re staying in a private apartment you won’t have that “hostel” vibe.

CroParadise Pink & Blue Hostel
CroParadise Pink & Blue Hostel is similar to the CroParadise Green Hostel as it’s a mixture of a hostel and private apartments. It’s a comfortable and budget-friendly accommodation option. Again, this isn’t the most social place to stay so it’s not a great option if you’re wanting to meet people.

Split hostel Fiesta Siesta
Split hostel Fiesta Siesta is a party hostel so if you’re looking to meet lots of people and maybe not get lots of sleep, then this is the place for you. It’s owned by Australians so you know the hospitality is on point. They organize daily social events like dinners, beach days, pub crawls, etc. And, if that’s not enough, the hostel is located above the popular Charlie’s Backpacker Bar (with drink deals for guests). They also have an excellent location.

Wonderful World Hostel Split
Located in an old stone house in the center of Split, Wonderful World is an excellent hostel that’s only 10 minutes from the beach and steps to Split’s top attractions.
Wonderful World is a chilled-out hostel (they have hammocks after all) and the staff is very welcoming — they also organize fun tours. This is a fairly small hostel so the rooms can get a little cramped but it does create a cozy vibe.

Hostel Split
Hostel Split has been open for over 15 years so it’s one of the longest-running hostels in Split. This is a friendly hostel thanks to the staff but this is not a place to stay if you want to meet other travelers — they don’t have common space. Basically, stay here if you want a clean, quiet, and comfortable place to stay that’s also centrally located.
